Wide condemnation for Levy's statements to set Lebanon ablaze
Lebanon-Regional, Politics, 2/25/2000
Lebanese Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss has condemned the aggressive statements made by Israeli Foreign Minister David Levy.
In response to statements made by Levy at the Israeli Knesset on Wednesday in which he threatened to set Lebanon in a blaze "Child for Child and blood for blood," al-Hoss described Levy as a "racist with a Nazi-like superiority complex."
Al-Hoss asked, "Is Lebanon the one which committed the massacres of Qana, al-Mansouri and al-Nabatiyeh and others during which hundreds of children, women and elderly were killed as they sough haven at the UN headquarters? Or is it Lebanon who kills, kidnaps, and tortures tens in its jails? Or is it Lebanon which denies international security resolutions especially UN Security Council resolution 425?"
The Lebanese premier continued, "The hand of David Levy is sullied with the blood of the innocent Lebanese children and women."
He concluded, "The Lebanese children who are threatened by Levy will be always the flame of the resistance which is not frightened by the aggressions."
On Thursday Egypt stressed its rejection of Levy's statement in which he reiterated his threats against Lebanon.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa described Levy's statements against Lebanon and its people as a very bad indication, at a time when all efforts have been mobilized to halt the Israeli aggression against Lebanon and reset the Middle East peace process into the right track.
In statement he made in Cairo, Moussa continued, "We object and do regret such statements."
