In concluding the Arab water security conference
Regional, Economics, 2/24/2000

The Arab water security conference urged at the conclusion of its works on forming a joint Arab perception to confront the risks resulting from the water crisis and to determine mechanisms to confront it.

The conference adopted the call of Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid to convene an Arab summit concerning water.

The conference urged the Arab League to form a legal technical committee to mediate to bring together points of view among Syria, Iraq and Turkey to solve problems of sharing the Degla and Euphrates rivers.

In its recommendations, the conference refused to use water to pressure the Arabs or to turn it to a source of anxiety in the Middle East and warned against resorting to force in the water crisis.
