Some 15 Islamists detained in Jordan
Jordan, Local, 2/24/2000
Sources close to the Jordanian police said on Wednesday that the security forces arrested on Monday in Maan city in the south of Jordan 15 Islamists suspected of being involved in an aggression carried out against the local university's female complex.
The attack was made in protest of the two sexes studying together at the university.
The Jordanian independent paper al-Arab al-Youm said that the detained Islamists belong to the al-Salafeyah group, which is a small group taking an "anti-university position."
The Jordanian daily al-Doustour said that all the detainees are from the city of Maan, but gave no mention of their party affiliation.
