Case filed against the secretary of the Yemeni Baath Party
Yemen-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 2/22/2000

The Yemeni Press and Publications Union has decided to file a court case against the secretary general of the pro-Iraq Baath Party, Qasem Salaam, who is also the chairman of the higher council of the opposition in Yemen under charges of publishing an article damaging relations between Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

AFP quoted a statement at the attorney general in Sanaa on Monday as saying that Salaam was summoned by the Press and Publications Union to be investigated over an editorial published by the opposition paper al-Ehya al-Arabi in January, in which he attacked Saudi Arabia.

On February 9, the Yemeni government had criticized the opposition's papers and accused of them of publishing false and irresponsible news aimed at damaging Yemeni- Saudi relations.
