Tunisian opposition prepares for municipal elections in May
Tunisia, Politics, 2/22/2000
The political parties in Tunisia are getting ready to enter the municipal elections that will be held during May with the same enthusiasm with which they went into the parliamentary elections in October.
Those elections resulted in a multiparty parliament comprising 182 deputies among which are 148 belonging to the ruling Democratic Constitutional Assembly, while 5 opposition political parties sharedthe rest of the seats.
The most important characteristic of the parliamentary elections was the various programs of the opposition parties, whose opinions varied concerning different subjects, yet they eventually agreed on Tunisia's interest which they considered above all parties and persons.
