Mubarak sent a message to Barak
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 2/21/2000

"President Hosni Mubarak sent a message Sunday to Israeli Premier Ehud Barak on Egypt's stance as to the necessity of reviving the peacemaking drive on all tracks as well as its stance regarding the latest Israeli aggression on Lebanon," Foreign Minister Amr Moussa said, answering reporters' questions Sunday evening following his meeting with Danni Yatom, head of the security and political body at the Israeli Cabinet.

According to Moussa, his meeting with the Israeli official was important as it took up all tracks and positive and passive elements.

Moussa voiced hope that his meeting with Yatom would contribute to putting things on the right track and clearing away current obstacles.

"The meeting aimed to push the peacemaking process forward and put an end to the current policy towards Lebanon or other parties," he said.

Moussa underlined Egypt's constant stance as to the peacemaking drive and the necessity of its continuation according to the agreed-upon principles.

Moussa called for a quick move to revive the peace tracks without delay.

"President Mubarak's visit to Lebanon is designed to highlight the necessity of breathing life into the peace process that would not coexist with occupation," he said.

Moussa stressed that anti-peace practices, such as the Israeli crackdown on Lebanon's infrastructure, would not lead to peace. "Egyptian contacts with different Arab and European parties, the United States and Israel aim at reviving the peace drive via peaceful means and guaranteeing the continuity of the process," he said.

Moussa called for Arab coordination in this conjunction.
