Syria, UNDP sign protocol

In the framework of the technical cooperation with the United Nations Development Program for 1997-2000, an agreement on the project of administrating traditional and non-conventional water resources in the area of agriculture between the UNDP and Syria was signed on Sunday at the premises of the state planning commission.

It was signed by the Syrian minister of state for planning, the Syrian minister of agriculture and the UNDP's resident representative, Tawfiq Bin Amara.

This project aims at supporting national goals in increasing the agricultural production by using the best means of conventional and non-conventional water resources.

This project will be carried out within two years by the directorate of irrigation. The project's total cost is estimated at US $432.500. The contribution of the Syrian side to the project is US $150,000.
