Morocco-Niger, Politics, 2/18/2000
Morocco and Niger have agreed to foster their cooperation in matters of water harnessing, dams construction and spa exploitation.
The decision was made at a meeting in Rabat between Moroccan minister of equipment, Bouamor Taghouan, and Niger's minister of water resources, Akoli Dawel.
The two sides discussed means to promote cooperation in technical assistance and transfer of know-how in line with the accord on water signed by the two countries in 1998.
A number of technicians and cadres from Niger are currently undergoing a training session in Morocco along with technicians from other African countries on engines and road maintenance, a statement by the Moroccan equipment department said. The training program is held part of a tripartite cooperation accord binding Morocco, Japan and third countries.
Other trainees from Niger will attend shortly a training course at the Moroccan drinking water company (ONEP) while a delegation of Moroccan experts will visit Niger to assess on the spot the existing problems and propose adequate solutions.
Akoli Dawel who is also the spokesman of Niger's government had attended on Monday in Marrakesh the meeting of the administrative board of the Bayt Mal Al-quds (Jerusalem fund).
