New round of negotiations between southern opposition, Sudanese government
Sudan, Politics, 2/17/2000

Mansour Khaled, the advisor of the head of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement, asserted that a new round of negotiations between the government and the Sudan People's Liberation Army will be held on February 21 in Nairobi.

A high-ranking Sudanese delegation headed by an advisor of the Sudanese president Nafea Ali Nafae visited the Kenyan capital recently and held communications with mediators from the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in eastern Africa, which sponsors the negotiations between Khartoum and the SPLA.

Sudanese sources stated that there are communications currently being held among parties from the government and Riyak Mashar, the assistant Sudanese president who resigned last week, to return to the government instead of resorting to war and to start discussing and holding a meeting in the governmental offices to discuss this request.
