Arab League call on UN remove obstacles before Iraq
Iraq, Politics, 2/17/2000
The Arab League has called on the UN Security Council to reconsider the obstacles placed by the US and Britain before the implementation of the oil-for-food concerning Iraq.
The AL's assistant secretary general for Arab affairs, Ahmad Bin Hali, indicated the resignation of several officials in charge of implementing the oil-for-food program, asserting that such resignations prove that there is a real break in the cooperation relations between Iraq and the UN.
Bin Hali expressed the hope of the AL that the UN Security Council will work to alleviate the suffering of the Iraqi people and to find the proper mechanism for resuming cooperation between Iraq and the UN, according to a clear formula accepted by all sides, a transparent formula that aims in the end to lift the sanctions imposed on Iraq and end its embargo.
