Report: Barak may approve withdrawal to June 4, 1967 borders
Syria-Israel, Politics, 2/17/2000
The Israeli daily Maariv said on Wednesday that Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak has remarked on the possibility of approving Damascus' request to return back to the June 4, 1967 border line.
Barak said there is no use to be stubborn with President Hafez al-Assad over hundreds of meters of land.
Israel Radio said that Barak's statements were made during his meeting with soldiers and officers in the Israeli Army, adding that it is not easy to convince the young generation of the feasibility of launching a war once again.
He added that Israel has at the present to remark who is responsible for not reaching peace in the Middle East, and it seems that President al-Assad has showed his readiness for peace.
