Israel and Jordanian workers
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 2/17/2000

The Israeli Hebrew-language radio said on Wednesday that the Israeli ministry of the interior and the police have abstained so far from enforcing rules on Jordanian workers who work in Israel and stay there in violation of Israeli laws. The report said this is due to several reasons including instructions and recommendations released by the Israeli political leadership which is careful to avoid any disputes with the Jordanian authorities.

The Israeli Radio report said that the Israeli police abstained from chasing those Jordanian workers inside Arab villages and areas in Israel to avoid any sort of fierce confrontation with the Palestinian citizens from the people of these villages and areas.

The radio report added that most of the Jordanian women working in Israel are recruited for cleaning work and that the men, whose number exceeds 40,000, are distributed among building, agricultural and cleaning works.
