Arab steps to establish Arab company for communications
Egypt-International, Business, 2/16/2000
Egyptian businessman Nguib Sawiris, the executive chairman of Egypt's Orascom Telecom, is currently leading steps to establish a large Arab company for communications to confront the severe competition from major international companies which aim at dominating the majority of the Arab and African market, the most important growing markets in this field.
Sawiris told ArabicNews.com that Orascom aims at holding the first position to find local work opportunities in which Orascom can win the right of authorization to running the mobile phone services.
He said the company currently owns many licensees in Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Algeria and the right of 11 licensees in African countries after purchasing 80% of the African company Tele Shel.
