Esmat Abd El-Maguid meets with the Italian president

Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi is to meet tomorrow at Arab League headquarters with AL Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid in the attendance of the AL assistant secretaries general, the Arab ambassadors and the permanent delegates in the league.

Diplomatic sources in the AL told ArabicNews.com today that the meeting will tackle "the Israeli assault on Lebanon and the importance of having a strong and effective European stance to practice pressure on Israel to stop the assault, especially as Italy is a basic country in the European Union. Also the points of view toward the peace process in Middle East - will be tackled."

The sources added that the Arab - European relations will also be tackled, and the importance of continuing Italy's support for Arab causes in international circles.
