Morocco to stage awareness campaign on asbestos hazards
Morocco, Health, 2/16/2000
Morocco will stage next February 29 an awareness campaign on occupational hazards entailed by the use of asbestos.
Moroccan Minister of Social Development, Solidarity and Vocational Training Khalid Alioua stated that the campaign will target employers and workers' representatives. It will deal with dangers associated with the exposure to asbestos and prevention.
The minister also announced that a ministerial commission will draft a decree to protect workers exposed to asbestos.
Several European countries have banned the use of asbestos, a mineral that separates into long flexible fibers suitable for use as a noncombustible, nonconducting or chemically-resistant material.
