Morocco, Politics, 2/16/2000
The Moroccan drinking water authority "ONEP" is projecting to invest a total of $210 million over the five coming years in drinking water projects in the northern regions.
The investment program will secure the safety of drinking water in large and middle-sized cities and guarantee to other villages water supply.
ONEP said in a statement released as the Agency for the development of northern provinces held on Tuesday the 5th meeting of its governing bord, the investments will be supported by donor countries, such as Germany, France, Japan, Canada, Belgium and the European Union. Contributions will also come from international banking institutions, mainly the European Investment Bank, African Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank, Arab Funds, and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Thanks to the backing of these organizations, ONEP has invested $200 million in the region between 1989 and 1999.
