Morocco-India, Economics, 2/16/2000

Moroccan Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi, will start on February 21 a four-day official visit to India to consolidate cooperation ties with the subcontinent.

During the visit, which comes at the invitation of Indian Premier Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Youssoufi will assess with Indian officials the evolution of bilateral economic and commercial cooperation and explore new partnership prospects.

India is Morocco's third client and 30th supplier. Morocco recorded in 1997 its best external trade surplus with India ($332 million).

Phosphates and byproducts dominate Morocco's exports to India.

The two countries agreed during the visit Atal Bihari Vajpayee paid to Morocco in February 1999 to open new perspectives of cooperation, especially in the fields of industry, finance, railway transport, handicraft, energy and telecommunications.
