Sudanese opposition: We seek discussion and not a conference with the government
Egypt-Sudan, Politics, 2/15/2000

Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa convened a meeting with Mansour Khaled, secretary of foreign affairs in the opposition Democratic National Alliance in Sudan, and the political advisor for John Garang, head of the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army in southern Sudan.

Following the meeting, Khaled said the Sudanese Democratic National Alliance is the only power that represents Sudan in any discussion with the Khartoum government. He assured support for the Egyptian -Libyan initiative with a coordination between it and the IGAD (the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development) process.

Khaled added, "We do not talk about a conference, but we talk about a discussion between the opposition and the government, and there is no other party."
