Secretary general of the Egyptian organization for human right submitted for trial
Egypt, Judicial, 2/15/2000
Hesham Saraya, the general lawyer of the Egyptian supreme state security, ordered Hafez Abu Seada, the secretary general of the Egyptian organization for human rights, to be submitted to the Emergency Supreme State
Security Courts for being accused of receiving $25,000 US from a foreign entity to prepare a report concerning events of al-Khoseh village.
Abu Seada is accused of violating a military order issued concerning receiving funds from foreign sources and not having a permit from the Egyptian Ministry of Social Affairs concerning this as required by law.
The Egyptian prosecution arrested Abu Seada in October, 1998, after a report presented by an Egyptian journalist as being the only witness in the case of receiving funds from foreign sources to defame Egypt's reputation.
