Erekat: Israel behaves as if above the law
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 2/14/2000
Palestinian top negotiator Saeb Erekat said that Israeli Prime Minster Ehud Barak was insisting on reaching a framework for a final status accord on February 13, yet he surprised everybody by declaring that there are no "sacred dates," (deadlines) which threaten to blow up the peace process.
Erekat denied that the Palestinian side received any answer from Israel concerning Tel Aviv's stance after finishing the determined stage for reaching a final agreement.
He added that Arafat sent many letters to the parties concerned with the peace process to explain the dimensions of the current crisis of the Palestinian - Israeli negotiations, adding that the main problem is limited to Israeli behavior which acts as if it was above the law and does not respect any time frame or commitments.
