Syrian-Saudi joint committee meets on Tuesday

The Saudi-Syrian joint committee on bilateral cooperation is to hold its 8th session in Riyadh on February 15 and 16, under the chairmanship of Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa and his Saudi counterpart Prince Saud al-Faisal.

Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Sharaa is visiting Saudi Arabia tomorrow in occasion of convening the 8th session of the joint Saudi - Syrian committee which will last for 2 days during which it will discuss many issues that aim at boosting the bilateral relations in the economic, commercial, financial, educational, cultural and the informational fields.

Syrian diplomatic sources in Cairo told ArabicNews.com that al-Sharaa will hold during his visit political discussions with his Saudi counterpart Saud al-Faisal concerning the developments in the area, the Israeli assault on south Lebanon and the negotiations' stance on the Lebanese and the Syrian tracks with Israel.

The committee will also discuss cooperation relations between the two states in various areas and means of developing them and giving them a push forward for the interests of the two peoples.

The 7th session of the joint committee held its meeting in Damascus on June 15 and 16, 1998, during which the Syrian and Saudi sides agreed to take further measures to develop the varied bilateral economic relations and increase the volume of trade exchange.

They also agreed to liberate the flow of commodities and services, eliminate obstacles impeding the development of bilateral relations and found joint investment companies as well as to develop prospects of industrial and agricultural cooperation in the fields of transport, education and investment.
