Acts of violence continue in Algeria

The Algerian daily al-Khabar said on Sunday that the Armed Islamic Group killed one of its redeemed members who handed himself over to the Algerian authorities recently in the city of Qusantinah.

The paper also said that seven armed men were arrested during mopping-up operations carried out by the security forces in Gleizan province.

Meanwhile, the Algerian paper Sawt al-Ahrar said that five members of the same family were killed by the armed groups on February 11 in Awlad Ibrahim district area in Medea province, 80 km south of the capital.

The paper reported that the group attacked the small village where the Banali family lived. They implanted a bomb near a municipal guard center and then destroyed with another explosive the house of the victims before killing them.

This new massacre comes just 48 hours after another crime took place in the same area where seven persons were killed in an ambush implanted in Hammam Salhin.

Meanwhile, the Algerian daily al-Sahafa said that one citizen was killed by the Armed Islamic Group at Bani Bajis town in Jijel province, 395 km from the capital Algiers.

The paper indicated that the armed groups kidnapped in Awlad Ali Abu Zayan area in Mascara province one shepherd and stole his one hundred sheep while he was grazing in the area.
