Moroccan journalist union, Iraqi news agency sign cooperation accord
Iraq-Morocco, Culture, 2/12/2000

The Moroccan Press Union "SNPM" and Iraqi counterpart signed in Baghdad last week a cooperation agreement for the coordination of stances at Arab and international encounters.

The agreement provides for development of activities between the two unions within the Arab journalists union and within other international professional associations, such as the non-aligned countries' journalists and the African and Asian journalists unions.

They argued that they have to take action to face disinformation by some western news organizations and agreed to increase the exchange of visits, expertise and documents and cooperate in the holding of events.

The two unions further denounced the air strikes against Iraq and called for the lifting of the embargo and for an end to the no-fly zone in southern and northern Iraq. They also voiced support to the perfection of Moroccan territorial integrity and to its legitimate claims over the Moroccan towns of Sebta and Melilia and the islands of Jaafarine still under Spanish rule.

The "SNPM" which is organizing a solidarity trip to Iraq for a group of Moroccan journalists handed over to Iraqi news agency "INA" a batch of computers and printers.
