Iraqi - Russian cooperation in electricity

Iraq and Russia agreed on establishing joint projects in the field of electricity as Russia will establish and develop several private electric stations which Russia previously was involved with in Iraq before the international economic sanctions were applied. The Iraqi electricity nets were exposed to comprehensive destruction during the Gulf War in 1991 due to which a severe retreat occurred in the electric power which pushed the Iraqi authorities to follow an organized way of cutting off electric power in the different Iraqi establishments, which is currently increasing from between 9 to 15 hours daily in the different Iraqi governorates.
