Egyptian communications for convening Afro-European summit in Cairo
Egypt, Politics, 2/11/2000

Diplomatic sources in Cairo said that Egypt is currently making intensive communications for convening the Afro-European summit in Cairo during April in association with Algeria, the current head of the Organization of African Unity, and Portugal, current head of the European Union.

The sources denied there was an intention to cancel this summit, referring to obstacles before this summit, among which is Morocco's non-participation due to suspending its membership in the Organization of African Unity due to the Algerian recognition of the Saharan republic, especially as the European side insists on Morocco's participation in this summit.

The sources said that Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa's tour, which will be concluded today in Algeria and Morocco aims at specifying the capacity in which Morocco will contribute to the work of this summit.
