Government ensures a daily follow-up of Moroccan immigrants situation in Spain
Morocco-Spain, Politics, 2/11/2000

The Moroccan government decided to ensure a daily follow-up of the situation of Moroccan expatriates in Spain following El Egido violent incidents.

Spokesman for the government Khalid Alioua said Thursday, at the end of a government meeting, that the meeting examined the serious incidents which erupted in Almeria where the Moroccan community was subject to acts of violence.

Reports on the situation were presented at the meeting

by the concerned departments which are closely following these events, Alioua said, adding that Morocco cannot admit in any case this situation.

He said that Morocco which strongly condemns these acts has expressed his astonishment as to the slow intervention of the Spanish police, and urged the Spanish government to ensure the security of the Moroccan community and to respect the provisions of the cooperation, friendship and neighborliness agreement signed between the two countries.

Secretary of State Aicha Belarbi, who is currently taking part in Moroccan-Spanish socioeconomic days in Madrid, will visit the town of Almeria to inquire about the situation of the Moroccan community, Alioua added.
