Al-Quds committee denounces israel's expansionist policy
Regional-Israel, Politics, 2/11/2000

The Al-Quds committee, stemming from the Organization of Islamic Conference, had condemned Israel's "expansionism" and "warmongering" policies, mainly the settlement policy meant to Judaize the holy city of al-Quds (Jerusalem).

In a statement presenting the recommendations adopted by the OIC commission for economic, cultural and social affairs held in Jeddah last January 22-26, the committee called for continuing action at Islamic and international scales to force Israel to cancel its decision to annex the holy city.

The committee called on the OIC secretary general to coordinate action with international institutions to prevent Israeli occupying authorities from destroying buildings in the Al-Aqsa mosque nearby and to put an end to excavations in the southern part of the mosque.

The committee stressed the need to extend all forms of assistance to the city inhabitants to help them refurbish their lodgings, back their resistance and safeguard the holy shrines in the city from any demolitions.

The committee equally paid tribute to the late King Hassan II for his efforts at the head of the committee and for his initiative to set up Bayt Mal Al-Quds (Al-Quds Fund).

Bayt Mal Al-Quds, based in Casablanca, was created upon the proposal of the late King Hassan II, during the 15th session of the Al-Quds committee held in Ifrane (Middle Atlas) in January 1995.

The purpose of the agency--whose administrative board will be meeting in Morocco next week-- is to raise funds from the OIC member countries, institutions, private enterprises, associations, Muslim and Arab communities and individuals.

It was created to save the holy city of Al-Quds from Israeli attempts to obliterate the Islamic and Arab identity of the city, protect the rights of Palestinians, support its Arab inhabitants and safeguard the city's civilization and religious, cultural and architectural legacy.
