Egyptian, Portuguese foreign ministers's meeting with king Mohammed
Morocco-Egypt-Portugal, Politics, 2/11/2000

Egyptian and Portuguese foreign ministers, Amr Moussa and Jaime Gama voiced satisfaction over the outcome of their meeting with King Mohammed VI Thursday in Marrakesh.

The meeting that was attended by head of European diplomacy and security coordinator Javier Solana discussed the projected Euro-African summit --to be held in Cairo next April--, Amr Moussa told reporters after the meeting.

Moussa, who described the meeting as fruitful, said there was a convergence of views on all the issues brought up and that he had conveyed the Moroccan king a message from President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt.

All conditions will be gathered for the holding of the summit in Cairo in the scheduled date, i.e. April 3-4, and President Mubarak will extend invitations to participants as of Friday, he said.

The Portuguese foreign minister, whose country chairs the European Union, on his part said he would inform the European foreign ministers in Brussels about the outcome of the meeting with the king.

The meeting, he said, is of paramount importance and usefulness for the Euro-African summit.

"I hope the European Commission will take very clear decisions to engage in cooperation with Africa," Gama said.

Moussa, who was in Algeria on Wednesday, had then said that debt and economic cooperation would be key topics at the summit, the first ever between the two sides to elaborate a strategic partnership.
