Al-Sharaa discusses condition of Palestinian refugees in Syria with UNRWA chief
Syria-Palestine-UN, Politics, 2/11/2000

Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa met on Thursday in Damascus with Peter Hansen, the commissioner general of UNRWA (the UN Relief and Works Agency).

Talks dealt with conditions of the Palestinian refugees in Syria. Stress was laid on the need to implement the UN resolutions as the basis to settle their conditions. They also reviewed the activities and efforts carried out by UNRWA to help the refugees, and in this respect Hansen highlighted Syria's cooperation.

Later in the day, al-Sharaa discussed with Cyprus' former foreign minister current conditions in the region, the Middle East peace process and the recent Israeli attacks against Lebanon. Talks also dealt with bilateral relations between Syria and Cyprus and means of strengthening them in all areas.
