Lebanon inform Arab, world parliaments on Israeli practices
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 2/11/2000

The speaker of the Lebanese parliament Nabih Berri has called on heads of Arab and Islamic and world parliaments to exert their efforts for condemning the Israeli aggression and to maintain solidarity with Lebanon and help it rebuilding what had been destroyed by Israel as well as to pressure Israel in order to abide by UN resolutions because these resolutions are the only way to open the door wide for just and comprehensive peace in the region.

In urgent messages he sent to heads of Arab and Islamic parliaments, the speaker of the Inter-Parliamentary federation, the chairperson of the international parliament, the European and Francophonic parliaments and parliamentarians of Lebanese origin who are living in 19 countries in the world, Berri said that Israel is trying to revenge from the successes attained by the Lebanese national resistance for its occupation of dear parts of our land since March 14, 1978.

Meantime, the Lebanese Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss has called on the US to continue exerting its efforts to establish peace in the region.

In a statement in which he replied statements made by the US secretary of state Madeleine Albright in which she held the Lebanese national resistance responsible for the tension in Lebanon, al-Hoss said " we see the US which shoulders great responsibilities due to its position as a superpower, should stand beside the oppressed against the oppressor or speak in backing the victim against the aggressor."

He stressed that the recent escalation threatens the Middle East peace process "and we hold Israel responsible for this deterioration."

The Lebanese premier stressed that resistance is a legitimate matter approved by international norms and rules and that the Israeli aggressions came as a flagrant violation to April Understanding to which Lebanon is committed itself."

He continued as that if Israel is careful to avoid casualties and losses in the lines of its forces, it has only to withdraw from the occupied Lebanese territories according to UN security council resolution 425.

He stressed that the Israeli attacks against the infrastructure in Lebanon targeted civilian man's life and living.
