Harbor traffic increases by 9.1% in 1999

Moroccan harbor traffic reached about 52.7 million tons in 1999, thus recording an increase of 9.1% compared to 1998, the Equipment Ministry said.
Imports, which made up 51.5% of harbor total traffic, increased by 12.7% while exports recorded an increase of 5.7%, rising from 22.7 million tons in 1998 to nearly 21 million tons in 1999, according to the ministry's latest newsletter.
The global traffic includes 140.509 tons of fishery products valued at $56.1 million (561 million DH).
Casablanca remains the most active port with about 10.2 million tons of exports and 9.3 million tons of imports, followed by the port of Mohammedia (30 km north of Casablanca) with 2 million tons of exports and less than 8 million tons of imports. Jorf Lasfar harbor (south of Casablanca) reached 3 million tons of exports and a little more than 6 million tons of imports.
