Russian ambassador in Cairo urges resumption of relations between Iraq and the UN

Valdimar Joseph, the Russian ambassador in Cairo, urged in press statements yesterday after a meeting with Arab League Assistant Secretary General Ahmed Bin Holi a resumption of cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations to lift the economic sanctions on the Iraqi people on the basis of implementing Security Council resolutions.
He said that what happened to the Russian ship stopped by US navy in the Gulf recenlty on suspicions of carrying smuggled Iraqi petroleum is not considered a governmental issue because the ship is affiliated to a private company, and the Russian government officially has nothing to do with the Iraqi petroleum.
