Fourfold Sudanese meeting in Cairo next month
Sudan-Egypt, Politics, 2/9/2000
A Sudanese opposition source asserted that there are intensive communications for convening a fourfold meeting under Egyptian - Libyan auspices in the first week of March in Cairo that will include Sudanese Preisdent Omar El-Bashir; Mohamed Ossman El-Mergany, head of the opposition Democratic National Alliance which brings together the northern opposition parties and southern rebels; El-Sadek El-Mahdi, the former prime minister and head of the Ummah Party; and John Garang, head of the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army.
The source told ArabicNews.com today that Merghani and El-Mahdi discussed this subject to coordinate between each other during the meeting, referring that the fourfold meeting has no specific agenda and that it is meant to break the ice between the opposition and the Sudanese government, remove enmity and open a new page of discussion, and that it is not specified for discussing the Sudanese issues.
