Abdul Meguid condemns Israeli assault on Lebanon
Regional-Lebanon, Politics, 2/9/2000
Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid strongly condemned the Israeli assault on Lebanon due to which innocent civilians were killed and which created wide-ranging destruction in utilities and in the Lebanese basic infrastructure.
Abdul Meguid considered it a serious escalation in a series of continuous Israeli assaults on Lebanon and a pretext behind which Israel hides its failure in confronting the Lebanese resistance which practices its legal right in resisting the Israeli government.
He also depicted this assault as a daring violation of all international laws and customs which legalize the right of resisting occupation and a contradiction of the 1996 April Understanding which shows clearly the severe contradiction between what is said by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak's government and what it really practices as well as its continuous obstructions of peace negotiations.
