Egypt reports to Sudan concerning Egyptian - Libyan initiative

Egypt informed the Sudanese government of results of the last meetings of the joint Egyptian - Libyan committee assigned to discuss achieving the national reconciliation and comprehensive national discussion according to the Egyptian - Libyan initiative.

Ahmed Abd El-Halim, Sudan's ambassador in Cairo, told ArabicNews.com following his meeting with ambassador Ali Hasan the Egyptian assistant foreign minister for African affairs, that he was informed of the results of the joint committee's work and its last meetings in Tripoli, Libya.

He added that the move goes toward the reconciliation and convening a comprehensive conference for discussion between the Sudanese parties, saying that Egypt and Libya are committed to the joint initiative because it is the right framework for achieving reconciliation and a comprehensive peaceful solution among the different Sudanese parties, saying that his government adheres to the Egyptian - Libyan initiative.

Abd El-Halim also emphasized the Sudanese government's adherence to the participation of all of the Sudanese reconciliation parties in the discussion meeting which will be held soon and said that there is a preliminary meeting to prepare for this comprehensive conference without excluding any party, including John Garang, head of the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army, while taking into consideration that issue of the south is a basic part of the comprehensive solution for the Sudanese affairs.
