Al-Hoss: Nothing will undermine our position regardless of sacrifices
Lebanon, Politics, 2/8/2000

Lebanese Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss has asserted that the only way to stop violence in Lebanon is the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 425 that provides for Israel's unconditional withdrawal from south Lebanon to the internationally-recognized borders.

In response to the new threat made by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak against Lebanon, al-Hoss said, "The Lebanese resistance is not the reason for violence. Resistance is a result of occupation, and it is natural to continue so long the occupation exists. And Israel cannot change this fact by escalating its aggressions against Lebanon."

Meanwhile, the Lebanese premier made a telephone call with the US ambassador to Lebanon, David Satterfield, and the two men discussed the agitated situation in south Lebanon.

Al-Hoss called on the US ambassador to make necessary contacts to prevent Israel from escalating its aggressions against Lebanon.

Further reports from south Lebanon added that the Lebanese premier and the chief of the UNIFIL discussed the Israeli military escalation in Lebanon.

UNIFIL's chief told al-Hoss that no amendment on the international borders in south Lebanon have been made and that the Israeli occupation forces are still in the previously-occupied positions.
