Two Israeli soldiers killed five wounded in S. Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 2/7/2000

Two Israeli soldiers were killed and five wounded on Sunday in a Lebanese resistance attack against Israeli forces in the surrounds of the Balat position in the occupied part of south Lebanon, according to Lebanese security sources.

The Lebanese sources added that the Israeli soldiers were killed or wounded when an explosive charge planted by resistance men surrounding the position went off.

On Monday, another three Israeli soldiers were killed and four wounded in a similar Lebanese resistance attack against al-Azeyeh position.

A statement by the Lebanese resistance on Sunday said that in retaliation for repeated Israeli attacks on the Lebanese territory, a resistance group was able to go deep inside the international borders and to ambush an Israeli infantry patrol whose members were killed and wounded.

The statement added that when another Israeli force came to support the patrol, the Lebanese resistance rocketed the force, which was directly hit.

The Lebanese resistance, on the other hand, paid last respects to a resistance fighter, Ahmad Moussa Ashhab (28), who died as a result of severe injury during a recent operation in the western Bekaa.

Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation forces bombarded a number of towns and villages in the western sector of south Lebanon and the nearby heights of al-Tuffah district, Lebanese security sources reported. The Lebanese sources added that the shelling coincided with heavy machine gun fire by Israeli forces against the hilly passages linking al-Tuffah district to the occupied part of south Lebanon.
