Barak confers with Jordanian king
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 2/7/2000
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak arrived in Amman on Sunday on a short visit to Jordan.
Upon his arrival in Amman the Israeli premier headed for the Jordanian royal palace where a meeting was held between him and King Abdullah.
King Abdullah's talks with Barak were concentrated on the Middle East peace process in light of the current stalemate on the Syrian and Palestinian tracks, as well as strengthening joint economic and trade projects and industrial projects and facilitating trade and tourism between the two sides.
Israeli Radio said on Sunday that Barak was to ask King Abdullah during their meeting on Sunday to use his good relations with Syria in order to convey to Syrian President Hafez al-Assad a message confirming Israel's desire to proceed forward in the peace process.
Meanwhile, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak has described the relations between Jordan and Israel and each of King Abdullah and Barak as good.
Barak has also denied that he and any of his delegates have conveyed to the Syrians maps or explanations of regional issues.
Israeli Radio reported that Barak's denial was made on Sunday during a session of the Israeli Cabinet.
