Al-Majali: No boycott of inter-parliamentary conference because of Israel's participation
Jordan, Politics, 2/7/2000

Speaker of the Jordanian Parliament Abdul Hadi al-Majali has ruled out the Jordanian members of parliament boycotting the works of the Inter-Parliamentary Union due to be held in Amman on April 30 because of Israeli participation.

In a statement to the Jordanian daily al-Dostour issued on Sunday, the speaker of the Jordanian parliament said that Amman views this conference very interestedly. He denied rumored information on a possible boycott by any of the sides participating in the conference because of the participation of a delegation representing the Israeli Knesset.

He added that often Arabs and Muslims take part in international forums in which Israel takes part and that these fabricated stories on a possible boycott of this conference will not undermine the determination of the Jordanian Parliament to convene such a remarkable conference. He expressed his confidence that all countries will take part in this conference due to its importance.

The paper also remarked that Jordanian parliamentarians who asked not to be identified had leaked information during the two past days on the possibility of boycotting the Inter-Parliamentary Union conference in protest against Israel's participation through a delegation representing the Israeli Knesset.
