Decrease in Egyptian orange exports to Saudi Arabia
Egypt-Saudi Arabia, Business, 2/4/2000
A group of Egyptian orange exporters decided to decrease the quantities heading to Saudi Arabia by 1% after a drop in the price per ton of more than $40 US at one time.
The decision came after increased displays of Egyptian oranges in the Saudi market as a result of individual sales transactions which led to a retreat in the price per ton from $250 US to $210 US and from $200 to $160 US.
An official in the foreign trade sector affiliated to the Egyptian Economy Ministry asserted that the exporters' decision led to a decline in the quantities exported in the current season, which started in October 1999 from 78,000 tons to 70,000 tons until prices return to normal.
