Saudi crown prince agrees to open a branch of the Open Arab University
Saudi Arabia, Education, 2/4/2000

Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz has agreed on the establishment of the "Open Arab University" as well as to open a branch for it in Saudi Arabia.

This was announced by the chairman of the Arab Gulf program for backing the UN development organizations, Prince Talal Bin Abdul Aziz, following a meeting held in Riyadh of the work team of the open university project on Wednesday. The meeting included Arab experts and educational specialists.

Prince Talal expressed his thanks over this approval made by the crown prince to establish the university, a decision which indicates the great interest paid by King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah to backing education in the country.

Prince Talal when he proposed the Arab open university two years ago said that " it is imperative to search for new alternatives to support traditional systems and keep up with the universal trend toward bringing about the reform and diversification of higher education."
