Lebanese prime minister confers with Lord Levy
Lebanon-UK, Politics, 2/4/2000
Member of the British House of Lords Michael Levy, who is also the delegate of the British prime minister, has praised the Syrian position concerning the Middle East peace process.
In a statement he made in Beirut on Thursday following his meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Salim al-Hoss, Levy expressed his hope that positive results will be attained on the Syrian-Israeli track very soon, after which negotiations can be eventually made on the Lebanese- Israeli track.
Levy added that he had delivered a message from Blair to Lebanese President Emile Lahoud and delivered al-Hoss a message from British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook relating to the Middle East peace process.
Meanwhile, al-Hoss on Thursday received a telephone call from Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, during which Ivanov stressed the importance of reviving peace talks on the Syrian track and resuming negotiations on the Lebanese track on the grounds of implementing international legitimacy resolutions.
Ivanov briefed al-Hoss on the results of the multilateral talks that were held in Moscow last week.
