Al-Sharaa discusses with Albright, Ivanov the situation in the region

Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa on Thursday received a telephone call from Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov during which views were exchanged on current conditions in the region and the Middle East peace process developments.

On Wednesday late evening al-Sharaa received a telephone call from US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright during which talks centered on Middle East peace process developments in light of new developments in the region.

Meantime, Al-Sharaa on Thursday afternoon met with the new Japanese ambassador in Damascus who presented a copy of his credentials as an ambassador for his country in Damascus.

Talks dealt with bilateral relations between Syria and Japan and means of strengthening them in all fields. Talks also dealt with latest developments in the Middle East peace process and other issues of mutual concern.
