CAF considering bid by two African countries for 2006 cup
Morocco-Africa, Sports, 2/3/2000
The African Football Confederation (CAF) is seriously considering the two bids of Morocco and South-Africa to host the 2006 World Cup, said chairman Issa Hayatou adding a way out should be agreed upon before end of March.
In a press-conference in Lagos, Hayatou said the CAF cannot side and back one of the two candidates dividing CAF, yet recalled how he lobbied for Morocco worldwide when it was Africa's single bidder in 1994 and 1998.
The double bid does not serve Africa's interests because the odds for the continent to host the event of 2006 are genuine, he said.
