President Saleh urges increased role of the European Union in the area
Yemen-European Union, Politics, 2/3/2000

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh expressed his country's sympathy with the causes of the Arab states and said Yemen is looking forward to playing a regional and international role out of its sympathy with all events and causes as well as with what is taking place in Yemen.

Saleh said in an interview with the Egyptian Sawt al-Arab radio from the Belgian capital, Brussels, which he is visiting, that his country sets great hopes on the European Union and asks the European group to exert bigger and better support in a regional assembly. referring to the bilateral relations which link his country with European countries.

Saleh added that he discussed with the Belgian officials means of boosting the cooperation between Belgium and Yemen in all fields and said he will discuss tomorrow with the head of the European Union Yemen joining the Barcelona's Process as an observer.
