Libya-International, Judicial, 2/3/2000
Legal sources in Edinburgh said on Monday that the two Libyans suspected of being involved in the explosion of a US Pan Am passenger jet over the town of Lockerbie, Scotland stressed that they are not guilty.
This was expressed by the two men in the preliminary session before the beginning of the trial in the High Court in Edinburgh, capital of Scotland.
Neither Abdul Baset al-Miqrahi nor al-Amin Khaleifa Fheima attended this preliminary session for the trial which will start on May 3 in the military base of Zest near Utrecht, Holland.
However, the lawyers said that their two clients assert they are innocent from accusations addressed to them in exploding the plane, killing and violating air security, all crimes addressed to them.
The lawyer of Abdul Baset, Bill Taylor, said, "In the absence of my client I formally confirm that he is not guilty." Just few minutes later Taylor's colleague did the same in defending his client, Khaleifa.
