Lebanese president confirms national unity, backing to resistance
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 2/3/2000

Lebanese President Emile Lahoud has asserted that rallying around Lebanon to support its cause is the source of unity which makes the Lebanese powerful and gives further momentum to the Lebanese resistance.

During his meeting with the chiefs of northern districts in Lebanon on Wednesday, the Lebanese president said that Lebanon is not alone in its confrontation of Israel. Rather along with Syria, Lebanon can deter all plots, Lahoud said. It can counter the Israeli threats and attacks.

The Lebanese president also asserted that the Lebanese government is ensuring sound factors for the recovery of economic conditions and is keen to accord precise and major care to social issues so as to achieve balanced development, ensure security to all citizens and alleviate their burdens.

For his part, Lebanese Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss described the visit made by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak to an Israeli military position in the occupied part of south Lebanon on Tuesday as an utmost challenge and impudence.

In a statement to the Lebanese daily al-Nahar issued on Wednesday, al-Hoss added that Barak's visit confirms anew that the Israeli intransigence has no limits and is tantamount to attacks similar to those being carried out every day by the Israeli occupation forces when secure villages are shelled and the innocent are killed inside their homes.

Al-Hoss made it clear that occupation is terrorism itself and that Barak's visit to the occupied part of south Lebanon is part of this terrorism.
