Syria, Sudan sign security cooperation memorandum
Syria-Sudan, Politics, 2/3/2000
The ministers of the interior in Syria and Sudan signed a memorandum of cooperation and coordination on Wednesday in Damascus.
The memorandum, signed by Syrian Minister of the Interior Muhammad Harba and his Sudanese counterpart, Abdul Rahim Muhammad Hussein, provides for exchanging expertise in the areas of criminal security, drug-trafficking, and combating crimes and terrorism with a distinction between terrorism and the right of people to struggle and fight for liberation.
The exchange of expertise will be carried out in accordance with the 1977 Arab strategy for combating terrorism and the 1998 Arab agreement on combating terrorism.
The memorandum also calls for coordination of stances on issues of common interest, which are proposed in the international and regional security conferences.
