Fighting terrorism, a must

Interior Minister Habib al-Adly paid tribute to the current level of security coordination among Arab Interior Ministers in the fight against terrorism.
Adly, also praised the good intentions of Arab States to activate an Arab agreement on combating the phenomenon.
The minister said that, during the Council's 16th session held in Amman last year, an agreement was reached on setting up a ten-strong ministerial committee, comprising five interior ministers and as many justice ministers, to be in charge of activating the agreement.
"The 20 Arab States aim to put an end to terrorism to ensure the security and safety of individuals in the Arab region," he said. Adly pointed out that Algeria has made a great progress in combating terrorism, affirming the strength of Egyptian-Algerian relations on all political and other levels.
Adly added that Egypt's participation in the 17th session of the Arab Interior Ministers Council held in Algeria is an expression of the strong relations between Egyptian and Algerian political leadership.
In reply to a question that some countries have not joined the terrorism combating agreement, Adly said that Amman's session has agreed upon a working mechanism and its implementation is currently taking place.
Adly affirmed the importance of exchanging information on terrorism activities in Arab countries to abort them.
On President Mubarak's call for holding a terrorism combating conference, Adly said that the date of the conference has not been fixed yet, affirming that such a conference will bring about positive impacts in the respect.
On Egyptian-Algerian security cooperation, Adly said a memo of understanding was signed in 1991 and that cooperation between Egyptian and Algerian security authorities had started even before.
Adly said that Interior Ministers' bilateral meetings aim at boosting security relations and exchange of experience. Adly added that Egypt will continue to provide its Arab brothers with experience in security fields.
