Radio-broadcasting in Africa conference in May in Rabat
Regional-Morocco-Africa, Politics, 2/2/2000
The Moroccan capital will play host May 14-17 to an international conference on "Challenges of public radio-broadcasting in Africa."
The event staged by the Communication Department and the World Radio-TV Council will assess progress made by public radio-television systems and the promotion of freedom of speech, democratic values and cultural diversity.
Major issues on the agenda are challenges of fast developing technologies worldwide, public service criteria, role of the private sector in public broadcasting service and regulation systems.
Out of awareness of the importance of access to information in the protection of human rights, the government has been working out in the last twelve months an overall reform of the Moroccan radio and television networks.
